Public Speaking Tips
Three Levels of Speech
Written by John D. Lin
I'm simplifying the complex. First order is avoidance. You avoid speaking because you are vastly fearful and afraid or you simply do not value what you have to say enough to say it. You should always have something of value to say and be confident in saying it. Many simply avoid from fear. If you are fearful be lucky. Racing heart sweaty palms people spend thousands to get that way from sky-diving or swimming with sharks and all you have to do is come to class.
Second is getting by. You want to get it over with and put a check-mark in the box. It still seems dutiful and mandatory or obligatory to speak. Your inner desire to simply speak for the sake of betterment in yourself and others is still lacking. You are good enough to not be an embarrassment or epic failure. You blend in, neither terrible nor memorable but ... simply forgettable.
There is no good great greatest category. Even good jokes we forget. Even great deeds we don't remember. The only other third tier is the unforgettable. The difference maker. The stand out sublime your words. Look back in history and see all the great deeds accomplished without your aid since it was before you were born the space launch the pyramids. You did not help. But what will be accomplished in the future and what because of you? Be unforgettable. Strive for that with each speaking at bat you get and make your own opportunity to speak too.
